 nd complementary homologies\n\n \n\nAbstract: Let L be a finite lattice\, 
 and let L' denote the poset obtained by deleting the unique minimal elemen
 t 0 and the unique maximal element 1. Two elements of L are said to be com
 plements if their meet is 0 and their join is 1. In this talk we ask wheth
 er global non-vanishing homology of L' forces local non-vanishing homology
  for pairs of complements in "complementary homological dimensions". We th
 en apply this to monomial ideals and their Betti numbers. This is a joint 
 project with Sara Faridi and Volkmar Welker.\n\n \n\nFollowing the seminar
