Faulkner Presents: An Evening with Dr. Jeffrey Allen Murdock and Friends

Join us for a special evening honoring Dr. Jeffrey Allen Murdock’s remarkable ten-year legacy as he presents his final performance as a member of the University of Arkansas faculty. This two-part concert reflects the work that has defined Dr. Murdock’s career as a conductor, scholar, and champion of Black sacred music. The first half features an engaging lecture-recital tracing the rich history of Black music in America. Through storytelling, live performance, and musical illustration, Dr. Murdock explores the journey from the spirituals of the enslaved to gospel, jazz, and contemporary expressions—revealing how these traditions have shaped American music, culture, and faith. After intermission, the stage comes alive with a powerful gospel celebration featuring an 80-voice choir of University of Arkansas alumni, current and former students, community members, colleagues, and friends who have shared in Dr. Murdock’s musical journey. Together, they revisit beloved repertoire, celebrate cherished memories, and lift their voices in praise, joy, and gratitude. More than a farewell, this event is a homecoming—a celebration of community, a reflection on lives transformed through music, and a testament to the enduring power of Black sacred music to inspire, unite, and bring hope.
